Prior to co-founding the Kohlberg & Company in 1987, Mr. Kohlberg was with Kohlberg Kravitz & Roberts from 1984 to 1987. Mr. Kohlberg has over 20 years of experience in the buyout profession. Prior to joining KKR, Mr. Kohlberg was employed by Merrill Lynch & Co. He is a member of the board of directors of Allied Aerospace Industries, Inc., BI Incorporated, CUSA Busways, L.L.C., Holley Performance Products Inc., Invisible Technologies, Inc., Katy Industries, Inc., Nevamar Company, L.L.C., Hot Stuff Foods, L.L.C., Singer Worldwide, Stanadyne Corporation, Thilmany, L.L.C., KTTI Holding Company, L.L.C. Mr. Kohlberg is also a member of the management committee for Katonah Debt Advisors.

Mr. Kohlberg is also the President of the Plan for Social Excellence, a not-for-profit educational foundation that utilizes private funds to create or support new innovative projects in education in the United States. Mr. Kohlberg holds a B.A. from Golden Gate University and an M.B.A. from New York University.
